Stellantis built something special with the Hurricane inline-six engine. While everyone debates the return of the Hemi V8, this twin-turbo six is already reshaping what Dodge, Jeep, and Ram can do — and it deserves a real spotlight.

What Is the Hurricane Inline-Six?

The Hurricane is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, first revealed in 2022 and launched in production with the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. From there it expanded to the Ram 1500, Dodge Charger Six Pack, and Jeep Wagoneer lineup. All Hurricane engines share the same foundation: 84mm bore, 90mm stroke, twin 54mm Garrett turbochargers, direct injection at 5,075 PSI, an air-to-water intercooler, forged steel connecting rods, and a closed-deck aluminum block — significantly stronger than an open-deck design.

Standard Output vs High Output

Stellantis offers two Hurricane variants:

  • Standard Output (SO): 420 hp at 5,200 RPM, 468 lb-ft of torque. Cast aluminum pistons, single high-pressure fuel pump, 22 PSI boost. Runs on regular fuel. Found in the Dodge Charger Six Pack R/T, Ram 1500, Jeep Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer.
  • High Output (HO): Forged aluminum pistons with oil-jet cooling, dual high-pressure fuel pumps, dual-passage intercooler, 9.5:1 compression, 30 PSI boost. Ram 1500 RHO and Ram Limited make 540 hp / 521 lb-ft. The Dodge Charger Six Pack Scat Pack pushes it to 550 hp / 531 lb-ft at a 6,200 RPM redline.

Ram 1500 RHO: The Truck Version

The Ram 1500 RHO (Ram High Output) is the performance flagship of the Ram 1500 lineup, powered by the High Output Hurricane making 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic and standard 4WD with a locking rear differential. This is the most capable performance half-ton truck Stellantis has ever built.

HurriCrate: Available as Crate Engines

Both versions of the Hurricane are available as crate engines through Mopar Direct Connection. The Standard Output is called the Cat One and the High Output is the Cat Three — named after hurricane categories. These are bolt-in performance upgrades for any platform built around the Hurricane architecture.
