BMW M and BMW Motorrad Celebrate 100 Years of the Nürburgring With Nine Special Edition Models

BMW M and BMW Motorrad have unveiled a joint “100 Jahre Nürburgring” anniversary edition, marking the 100th birthday of the world’s most famous racetrack with six M automobiles and three M motorcycles finished in a bespoke shade the brand calls historic Nürburgring Green. The Nordschleife officially opened on June 18, 1927, and the centennial lands next summer — but BMW isn’t waiting until 2027 to start the celebration, with M3 and M4 orders already open through German dealers.

Six Cars, Two Colorways

Every car in the edition can be had in the signature historic Nürburgring Green or, alternatively, Black Sapphire metallic with green accents. On the M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, and M4 Coupé, choosing black also unlocks a green-outlined kidney grille frame you can’t get any other way. The graphics themselves are painted on rather than wrapped, combining the Nürburgring’s official “100 Years” anniversary logo, “Nürburgring since 1927” lettering, and an outline of the 20.8-kilometer Nordschleife itself.

Every car also wears edition-specific roof stripes finished with a black M logo. On the M2, M3 Sedan, M4 Coupé, and M5 Sedan, those stripes run over the M carbon roof; the two Touring wagons carry them across their steel roofs instead. Inside, all six cars get black leather with green-and-white contrast stitching and a Nürburgring silhouette embroidered into the front headrests — green thread on the six-cylinder cars, black on the M5s. The M2, M3, and M4 add an M Alcantara steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marker; the M5 twins get the same detailing on a leather wheel.

BMW M Ignite: The One Real Piece of New Technology

While BMW is clear that this edition brings no extra horsepower, the six-cylinder cars in the lineup — M2, M3, and M4 — do carry BMW’s newest engine tech: M Ignite, a patented pre-chamber ignition system that’s been running in S58 production engines since July and August 2026. BMW says it improves combustion efficiency under high load, trims fuel consumption on track, and helps the engines clear Euro 7 emissions rules without giving up any output. It’s a small but genuine piece of motorsport-to-road technology transfer, and it’s baked into every six-cylinder car in this edition by default.

The Motorcycles Are the Real Limited Editions

BMW gave no production cap at all to the cars, but the motorcycle side is genuinely scarce: the M 1000 RR, M 1000 R, and M 1000 XR are each limited to just 100 units worldwide. Standard equipment across all three includes the M Track Package, the historic Nürburgring Green paint, carbon wheels with green accent stripes, a painted fuel tank with the circuit’s silhouette, a blacked-out rear swingarm and frame, and an Alcantara-look seat embroidered with “100.” The M 1000 RR and M 1000 R additionally get an M Cover Kit, and every bike ships with a dedicated paddock stand and floor mat carrying the anniversary logo. BMW Motorrad’s own history at the Nürburgring dates back to 1927, when the brand scored its first win there.

Ordering, Availability, and What’s Still Unknown

The M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan, and M5 Touring editions are available to order now through German BMW dealers, with the M2 following in January 2027. Motorcycle orders open October 19, 2026. BMW hasn’t announced pricing for any of the nine models yet, nor has it confirmed which markets outside Germany will get an allocation — so U.S. buyers should treat this one as a “watch this space” story for now rather than something you can walk into a dealership and order today.

The 100 Jahre Nürburgring cars are built on the outgoing G80/G82-generation M3 and M4 — the same body shape that’s carried these carbon fiber side skirt splitters since 2014. If a green-and-black anniversary special never makes it to a U.S. dealer near you, this is the easiest way to bring a little of that Nürburgring attitude to your own M3 or M4 without waiting on BMW’s allocation.

Nine anniversary models and zero extra horsepower — this is BMW leaning entirely on 100 years of history rather than a spec sheet, and for once, that’s plenty.
