Choose replacement tires for a Durango by its exact configuration and operating needs. An R/T, SRT or Hellcat badge does not provide the complete tire specification, and a widebody conversion does not establish clearance or load capacity.
For a family SUV that may also carry luggage or tow, the useful starting point is a record of the vehicle, its wheels and its expected loading—not a list of universal “best” tire widths.
Establish the original requirements and the current setup
Record the model year, trim, drivetrain, factory packages, original tire label and any modifications. Photograph the current tire identities and have the installer identify the wheel dimensions. Keep front and rear information separate until their requirements are confirmed identical.
The 2023 Durango owner’s manual, printed page 242, specifies using appropriate replacement tire and wheel sizes and load/speed capability. It directs owners to the vehicle label and original tire information. Those instructions do not approve an aftermarket 275-, 285-, 305- or 315-width tire simply because it can be mounted on a wheel.
Use the manual for your own year and configuration. Distinguish a factory setup from a proposed conversion, and ask the installer to identify the basis for any change.
Do not divide curb weight by four to choose a tire
Curb weight describes an unloaded vehicle condition. Dividing it by four does not account for passengers, luggage, axle loading or other operating requirements. It is not a method for selecting the required tire load index.

Do not change pressure to compensate for an undocumented fitment. Have the appropriate operating requirement established for the actual setup, and keep it with the installation record.
Treat AWD matching as its own requirement
The 2023 manual’s AWD discussion, printed page 92, requires matching tire size, type and circumference for the system it describes. It warns that size differences can damage the transfer case. That is a vehicle-specific instruction, not a universal percentage allowance for all AWD systems.
Before replacing only part of a set or proposing different axle sizes, ask how the exact vehicle’s matching requirement will be checked. Retain measurements and the source of the decision. The one, two or four tire guide helps organize that conversation.
Separate weather suitability from performance language
Choose for the conditions in which the Durango must travel. “Performance” does not identify a winter qualification or establish cold-use limits. A speed symbol identifies a rated capability under defined conditions; it does not prove that a compound is better or that the tire will last a particular distance.

Review a modified setup as a complete assembly

An outer fender with more room does not prove inner suspension clearance. Nor does a wider tire by itself quantify improved braking, reduced wheelspin or greater wet-road capability.
